HIV/AIDS, starring Nagarjuna, Anushka

A short 2D animation film to create awareness on HIV/AIDS, starring Nagarjuna, Anushka Shetty, Shabana Azmi, Navdeep, Colours Swathi and Shruthi Hasan would hit screens soon.

Nagarjuna and Anushka released the CDs of the short film in Telugu and English versions with the title ‘Prevention is better than cure’ at LV Prasad Eye Institute here on Friday. The programme was jointly organised by Nimmagadda Foundation and Teach AIDS.

Speaking on the occasion, Nagarjuna said that he gave his own voice for this 2D film. He called upon all NGOs to come out and help people suffering from the disease.

HIV/AIDS education through films has proven to be more effective than other approaches, with people, especially students learning and retaining information about HIV prevention without directly discussing sexually explicit or otherwise taboo topics.

Actress Anushka said that there was a need to discuss and educate students in classrooms to create awareness among them about the number of people who die due to the dreadful diseases in the country.

Nimmagadda Foundation and Teach AIDS, a non profit organisation founded at Stanford University, USA, by Dr. Piya Sorcar have joined hands to bring in awareness about HIV /AIDS among youth and high school children in India through an animation based innovative communication model.

“We are initially releasing the 2D animated short films in association with Nimmagadda Foundation in Telugu and English. We are also planning to release more CDs in Kannada, Tamil, Marathi and Indian languages to communicate with the people,’’ said Piya Sorcar, founder of Teach AIDS.
